My mother met Ben first in an IRC chat room.
She was very impressed with this guy and told me,
" You have to meet him" With great emphasis!!!!!
My reply was " Oh mom, I don't want any internet romances"
In a matter of a few months I did consent to chat with him .
Then I met him and it was LOVE AT FIRST BYTE!
After a few months of chatting on line,
Ben came to meet all of us here in Cape Girardeau.
We had exchanged photos and tons of words on line.
He lived 5 1/2 hours from here so was a fair drive.
That was in November of '96
After spending a fortune on phone calls ( needed more than typing )
and many visits back and forth,
oh yes and one car totaled ( Mine, I ran in a ditch on
my way to spend the weekend with his family ) he asked me to marry him.
This was in May 1997.
It was the delight of my parents, but we hadn't set a wedding date yet.
We finally decided September would be our month to be married and we were.
We will never forget the rain we had that day.
We had a garden wedding. Nature at it's best!
A garden of Wisteria, among other growing things.
The wedding was held in the evening and we had the grounds
lit up with torches and candles.
BUT..............
Our Misfortune - it had begun to pour down rain , ( well actually
it was a soft gentle fall rain but to me it was disasterous)
Later my dad reminded us that it rained a torrent in the day of Noah
but God made it turn out so beautiful as it cleansed the earth
of unrighteousness and He followed
up by giving man the beautiful rainbow!
________
When it started to rain the minister told everyone,
except us and the wedding party,
to go to the adjacent pavilion, and for us to step up onto the beautiful gazebo.
Well My mother wasn't about to miss what she had hoped to see.
So my parents, and Ben's parents came up on the gazebo
and the wedding ceremony continued.
A few minutes later, still raining, I heard
a commotion and turned to see. All of our guests had been given an
umbrella and were back standing there to witness our vows.
We later enjoyed a Crystal Reception and dance under CLEAR skys!
Now eight years later, we have relocated to Sarasota, Florida.
We are happy and are proof that good things happen
as a result of love on line .
